Melinda and I had a nice last minute trip to Santa Barbara for her birthday. Melinda was originally scheduled to work on Sat 11/3 and I had signed up for the Solvang Prelude 25 mile bike ride that morning with Melinda's Dad. Two days before the weekend we decided it would be good to go away for a few days and just take a break from work and relax. We ended up at Fess Parker's Doubletree resort right on the beach in downtown Santa Barbara. Melinda's Mom arranged surprise massages for both of us too! When the hotel found out it was our birthday, we were upgraded to an ocean view room in addition to getting an early check-in and late check-out! After we checked in we were greeted by an unexpected knock on the door. It was the hotel room service brining us a complimentary bottle of champagne!
We had a great weekend in Santa Barbara. We went out to eat at a few of our favorite restaurants, 3 out of 4 of them were right on the beach. We had dinner at Moby Dick's on Saturday night. On Sunday we ate lunch at Long Boards on their patio. We were entertained by the pigeons trying to open the peanut shells to get to the peanuts! Sunday night we had dinner at Palazzio's Italian Restaurant in downtown Santa Barbara. On Monday morning we had a nice brunch with Robin and Anna at the Brown Pelican. Afterward we played in the sand on the beach with Anna.Overall it was a great weekend and good time to spend away from the normal everyday routine.
