Last weekend Melinda and I went on a mini-vacation down to San Diego. We just wanted to get away for the weekend and we had a great time exploring the area and visiting Sea World.Friday morning we packed up our car, including our bikes, and heading down to San Diego. We left about 9:15am and amazingly had no traffic at all. We arrived at our hotel in La Jolla at 11:45am. They had a room available and we were able to check in early. This was great as we had the whole afternoon available. We unpacked, put on some sun screen, and decided to go on a bike ride.
We headed out from our hotel and started toward the downtown La Jolla area. The weather was perfect - in the low 60's, sunny, and clear. The ride started along a pretty busy road. Once we got to the downtown area (about a mile) we found a nice lunch place and shared a sandwich. After lunch we continued on residential roads next to the beach. We saw quite a few expensive and fancy beach houses. We did notice several houses were under major remodeling construction - I guess if you live in that area you have to keep up with all your neighbors.
We soon reached the beach area and the main walkway / bike path. The rest of our bike ride down to Mission Beach was along this pathway. This was a great leisurely ride. We made it almost to the end of the path. At this point we had already gone 9 miles so we decided to head back. We got back to the hotel, had a quick relaxing time in the hot tub, and then had a nice dinner back in the downtown La Jolla area.
Saturday morning we got up and spent the day at Sea World. We both had not visited Sea World for quite a few years, so we had a fun day walking around. Now if only we could keep our fish tank as clean and healthy as the one's at Sea World...We spent the later part of Saturday afternoon around Coronado Island and the Hotel Del Coronado. We walked around the hotel and the beach. There were 3 separate weddings going on at the same time - 1 big wedding in the courtyard area looking out to the beach, and 2 others directly on the beach. We ate an early dinner in Coronado and then headed back to our hotel. We were both pretty exhausted after the long bike ride on Friday and walking around all day Saturday.
Sunday we slept in, checked out of the hotel and went to downtown La Jolla again to have brunch at a restaurant right on the ocean. We checked in with the waitress about 10am and were told there was an hour wait. We walked around the beach a little bit, and came back about 20 minutes later and were seated! We had a nice brunch.
Overall it was a great weekend trip to San Diego. It was nice to get away from the routine and do something different for a change.
